ACT to Recognize College & Career Champions: Apply today!

By: Suzanne Conquest, Senior Director, State Organizations

Preparing individuals for college and career success is no small task- and it’s never been more important. This is why ACT is recognizing individuals who are making a positive impact on their communities through their efforts to advance college and career readiness. ACT College and Career Readiness Champions personify the mission of ACT through intentional actions that create an atmosphere and culture which promotes college and career readiness for all.

ACT State Councils, comprised of education and workforce professionals in all 50 states and the District of Columbia, lead the initiative in their respective states. ACT Councils drive application efforts and serve as the selection committee to determine state champions.

ACT State Councils look beyond academics when assessing applicants. The Champions are identified in four categories:

  • The ACT College and Career Readiness Student Champion is tenacious and persistent, no matter the challenge, and is prepared for life after high school with a goal in mind and a plan in place.
  • The ACT College and Career Readiness K-12 Champion is an individual who has created or led a program that positively impacts their organization and community through improved readiness for college and career opportunities.
  • The ACT College and Career Readiness Postsecondary Champion is an individual who assists underrepresented or underserved students in navigating their future education and professional aspirations.
  • The ACT College and Career Readiness Workforce Champion has created or led a program that positively impacts their company and community through improved hiring practices, apprenticeships/internships, or community leadership.

ACT Champions receive recognition awards and individual certificates. In addition, Student Champions receive a $500 non-renewable scholarship.

Applications can be found at www.act.org/readinesschampions and are due December 31, 2017. Champions will be notified on or before April 2, 2018. All questions may be directed to ccrc@act.org. Apply today!
