Examples of Excelencia 2017 National Finalist: Celebrating Latino Student Success

It’s time to celebrate! Recently, our partners at Excelencia in Education announced their 2017 national finalists for Examples of Excelencia, an initiative honoring programs at the forefront of advancing educational achievement for Latino students in higher education. Examples of Excelencia is “the only national initiative to systematically identify and promote evidence-based programs and departments effectively boosting Latino enrollment, performance and graduation.” Of the 161 programs, 19 finalists were chosen in four categories: associate, baccalaureate, graduate degree, and community-based organization.

The Examples of Excelencia finalists will be recognized at Celebración de Excelencia in Washington, D.C. on October 5. Among other rewards, finalists will receive inclusion in the online Growing What Works database that serves as a shared resource for evidence-based programs that work for Latino students. During the ceremony, a committee of national experts will select one program in each of the four categories as Examples of Excelencia.

We proudly stand with our partners at Excelencia in Education as they honor the 2017 Examples of Excelencia finalists and, together, will continue to pursue Latino student success in higher education while bridging the equity gap in education. Our partnership with Excelencia in Education is fundamental to the mission of the Center for Equity in Learning and will be important to our shared success. We celebrate the 2017 finalists and will continue to cheer them on as they work to increase Latino student success.
