ACT funds supported 12 visits from the bed bug detecting dog. Bed Bug Catchers visited the warehouse every two weeks to inspect for bed bugs and mold. With this help, Houses into Homes was able to increase the frequency of delivery, because the dog visited more often so that all items could be inspected before being delivered. In addition, ACT funds supported the twin beds and box spring program, the more challenging beds for the program to acquire, funding beds for 10 children. A comfortable bed means a good night’s sleep and being well-rested leads to less stress and better work and school performance.

Houses into Homes provides gently-used beds, furniture, and household items for families and individuals in Johnson County who are exiting homelessness, domestic violence, and other crisis situations. The program strives to help people feel the comfort of home and to do so in a way that honors their experience and engages them with unconditional positive regard. As the only organization of their kind in Johnson County, they offer volunteers, recipients, donors, and staff a unique opportunity to meet and impact those who share the community.
